The largest island in the world. With an area of 836,335 square miles Greenland makes its impression. But
the true dimension of this «island» reaches the visitors mind first when he stands in in the middle of
nowhere and let the view pass along the horizon in this arctic wilderness.
Not more than 56,150 inhabitants share this last paradise. Halibut and shrimp
fisheries build the main industry. Connections between
towns and settlements are made by boat or plane. Actually
just three towns are reachable by plane the others are
connected by helicopter. Roads and highways are limited
to the area of a settlement. Coast liners are normal and affordable form of travel.
Greenland's capital is called Nuuk what actually stands for
«peninsula». Situated on the west coast its home for about 13,445 inhabitants. Here are the seat of Home rule and
ministries. During the last decade the Danish ministry is handing over more and more political functions.
Greenland is NOT member of the European Community (EC) but got an extraordinary agreement for special import
and customs regulations. Largest corporation in Greenland is the multinational
group for fisheries and seafood production
