Modern educational tools open new ways of teaching and entertaining. As we all know video and music
became an essential parts of our life at home, at work and for sure at school. Until today teaching
were based on well established educational methods including passive materials like books and pictures.
Even after the new media video and computer were introduced in institutes and schools are we far away
from using their full potential.
Our situation in Greenland is quite special compare to European or American society. Infrastructure
causes high expenses for traveling and information exchange. Visiting an other town means to fly by plane or helicopter alternative to a long journey on the water.
Due to this situation people are used to live more isolated and focus on new media's like television, video and mobile telecommunication.
On the hardware side the schools in Greenland got state-of-the-art technology. Even small schools for
1. to 4. grade have their own computer classroom with modern machinery. On the software side programs are imported from Denmark or Scandinavia and used only in Danish language. This lag of computerized educational material in Greenland's native language is after our opinion the biggest handicap right now.
The home rule and communities are aware of that matter and try to support the work on Greenland's special institute for development of educational tools.
At that point we try to strengthen these progress by developing multimedia programs and interactive
educational tools with a Greenlandic user interface.
TORRAK-software
is using modern development tools from Macromedia and Adobe. Special programming is done with Inprise/Borland products.
